The dairy industry is facing constantly growing challenges:
The highest hygiene standards, new technologies and, at the same time, a growing need for sustainable processes.

As the Wirth Group, we see it as our mission to develop and implement holistic concepts for food processing companies. This includes both structural solutions (e.g. cold room construction, façade construction, roof panels) and innovative materials such as GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic), which offer germ-reducing properties.

Because hygiene in the dairy industry is more than just cleanliness – it is the basis for quality, consumer protection and long-term business success.

Structural foundations for optimum hygiene standards

A key factor is the building structures that promote a hygienic environment from the outset. We think holistically here:

  • Cold room construction: Dairy products such as yogurt, cheese or fresh milk require constant, controlled temperatures. Our experience shows that well-planned cold rooms and cold cells make a massive contribution to quality and shelf life.
  • Façade construction and roof panels: External building envelopes are not only aesthetic shells, but also an important element for temperature control. High-quality, insulating panels ensure efficient energy use and prevent temperature fluctuations that could encourage bacterial growth.
  • Hygienic doors and insulated doors: Time and again, germs get into a production area because the transitions between areas are not cleanly separated. Special doors with food-safe seals and easy-to-clean surfaces minimize this risk.

Innovative materials: GRP as a bacterial barrier

Another key element in optimizing hygiene standards is the use of GRP. Thanks to its slightly textured, non-porous surface, liquids flow off better and form less residue, which makes them easier to clean:

  1. Easy to clean: Fewer corners and edges where biofilm and germs can accumulate.
  2. Resistance: GRP is resistant to aggressive cleaning agents and disinfectants that are regularly used in dairies.
  3. Durability: GRP remains stable even under high temperature and humidity fluctuations, which are common in the dairy industry.

The Wirth Group relies on GRP solutions to support dairies and cheese dairies in making their production processes hygienic and sustainable. We don’t just look at individual components, but develop holistic concepts that cover everything from the floor to the walls and ceiling.

Modern cleaning technologies are key

In addition to the structural requirements, automated cleaning technologies also play a major role. Dairies that invest in automated CIP (cleaning in place) systems benefit from consistently high cleaning performance. In combination with the slightly structured, repellent surfaces of GRP and a well thought-out production layout, these systems can work even more efficiently and further reduce the risk of contamination.

Sustainability and energy efficiency

In the dairy industry, a lot revolves around energy – for cooling, pasteurization or drying. A sustainable hygiene concept is also based on energy efficiency. High-quality panels (e.g. insulating panels for roofs and walls) reduce heat loss, while modern ventilation and cooling systems work efficiently. Every kilowatt hour saved helps to cut costs and reduce the carbon footprint.

Holistic planning and future-proofing

The Wirth Group looks at each operation individually: Which process steps are particularly susceptible to germs? How can hygiene doors be positioned so that there are as few crossing points as possible? What civil engineering services are required to integrate new technologies? In close cooperation within the Group with FoodTec Buildings and Schwan Projekt GmbH, we combine technical expertise in civil engineering in the food industry with industry knowledge and a spirit of innovation to offer tailor-made solutions.

High hygiene standards in the dairy industry are by no means an end in themselves. They ensure product quality, protect the end consumer and contribute to sustainable business practices. The Wirth Group helps dairy companies to position themselves for the future with holistic solutions for cold room construction, façade construction, GRP installations and the use of modern cleaning technologies. Because hygiene is a continuous process – and we are ready as a partner to actively help shape the future of milk and cheese processing.
